Columbiana church collecting personal hygiene products for Sandy victims

Updated:

COLUMBIANA, Ohio - A Columbiana church is collecting personal hygiene products for victims hit by Hurricane Sandy.

Home Depot and Lowe's stores donated 150 weather tight buckets to the Columbiana Church of Christ for the relief effort.

While they're not accepting food donations, they are in need of personal hygiene and paper products.

"We know that people are still in distress there and we thought that when the election was going on there was so much preoccupation with what was happening that it would deter from what we were able to do. So we're engaged now, fully engaged," said Dick Mason who is coordinating the effort.

Volunteers will be on hand through Friday at the church on Route 14 to accept any donations. The five-gallon buckets will be delivered to New Jersey over the weekend.
