FARRELL, Pennsylvania - The life of a local star athlete is being remembered after family members say he took his own life late last week.

A candle light vigil was held Tuesday night for Darius Patton.

The two-time all state selection from Poland, who went on to play for the University of Pittsburgh with a full scholarship, was remembered not only for what he did on the field, but for who he was off the field.

"His smile was contagious it would light up a room," said friend E.J. Kosec. "No matter what was going on up in his head he made everyone else feel like they were the happiest person in the world."

"I'm going to miss him, but he's not going to be forgotten. He's always going to be in my heart," said Patton's stepfather Dion Eilam. "I'm just always going to remember his smile; his smile will make you smile."

Friends of Patton's have opened an account at First National Bank to help pay for funeral expenses. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so under the name The Darius Patton Memorial Fund.
