Runners race in the 34th annual Turkey Trot

Updated:

WARREN, Ohio - It was an easy way to burn some pre-Thanksgiving dinner calories Thursday morning.

The 34th annual Turkey Trot at Kent State University's Trumbull campus drew a sea of 2,700 runners this year.

Organizers say many consider the event, organized by the Warren Kiwanis Club, a family affair. The holiday run and walk-a-thon featured a five-mile run and a two-mile walk.

Proceeds go to benefit the university's scholarship program and a number of local organizations, including the local Boy Scouts, First Book Trumbull County and the Y.M.C.A. of Trumbull County.

The top three finishers in the 5 mile run were awarded plaques.
