Girard mayor opposes new water meters, for now

Updated:

GIRARD, Ohio - Girard's mayor says he will veto legislation to spend more than a million dollars on new water meters for the city.

Mayor Jim Melfi tells 21 News, that city council is expected to pass an ordinance to purchase meters that can be read remotely.

Currently, water workers have to go inside homes to read meters.

The mayor says he's not opposed to buying the meters, but believes the city should wait until Girard has a new water agreement in place.
