WARREN, Ohio - For the third year, a Warren city leader and volunteers packed a U-Haul full of holiday surprises for Ohio's veterans staying in nursing homes.

Warren City Council President Bob Dean and the Northwood Neighborhood Group collected donations Friday at Packard Music Hall.

The items collected included clothing, toiletries and electronic gadgets.

Organizers say these are all items that will put a smile on the faces of those who have served our country.

"We think about guys who are now 70 and 80 who were in Vietnam, that are now in nursing homes because their body's failing and may not have had visitors for Thanksgiving and may not see their family for Christmas," Dean said. "It's a great idea to come up with some gifts that they weren't expecting from a little town called Warren, Ohio."

The donations will be delivered to the 800 staying at Ohio veteran's homes in Sandusky and Georgetown.
