Cinderella Ball held in memory of Liberty High School student

BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Young ladies representing several high schools across the Valley were recognized Friday night at the annual Cinderella Ball.

The ball, put on by the Junior Civic League, serves as a scholarship fundraiser. Each year the event raises enough money to offer at least five scholarships to area students.

"This prepares them for adulthood. It's almost like coming out to society and the community," said Cynthia Mason, a spokesperson for the Junior Civic League. "They do volunteerism, they participate in different activities, and it's not just about being crowned 'Miss Cinderella,' but raising money for scholarships for other deserving young people."

This year's event was held in memory of Bre'Ana Murray. Murray was a Liberty High School student who was expected to be recognized at the ball as an honorary debutante, but passed away unexpectedly last week.
