BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Boardman Township Trustees are closer to fulfilling a promise they made to voters late last year.

Trustees are currently interviewing candidates for the township police force.

Boardman voters passed a levy in August of 2011 to hire 10 new officers. The township has already hired six, now they plan to hire four more by the end of the year.

"We came to them on the ballot asking them for new money which is kind unheard of at this time. We're at a stage right now in Boardman where we want to make sure that the element of crime stays out of Boardman and the way to do that is to be visible and be proactive," said Boardman Township Trustee Brad Calhoun.

The new hires would bring the Boardman Township police force up to 57 officers.
