ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a man to 25 to 50 years in prison for shooting his estranged wife in the back, even though the woman says she has forgiven him.

The Erie Times-News reports Yalonda Black told Erie County Judge Shad Connelly, "The bottom line is, I forgive" before her husband was sentenced Monday.

Connelly cited 37-year-old Thomas Black's lengthy criminal record of 33 charges in 20 years in imposing the sentence.

A jury convicted Black of attempted homicide and other charges in September for shooting his estranged wife in the back as they argued in his vehicle about spousal support she owed him. Yalonda Black broke her ankle jumping from the moving vehicle.

Police say Thomas Black "dumped" his wife at a hospital after first refusing to drive her there.
