Former YSU football player sentenced for his part in drug ring

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Former Youngstown State University football star Shawn Patton was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday to 27 months in prison for his part in a country wide drug ring.

Patton was part of YSU's 1994 national championship team.

The 39-year-old was part of the conspiracy to distribute crack, cocaine, heroin and marijuana with ties to a Mexican drug cartel.

Patton has already served 20 months of his sentence.
