COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio is just one step away from new rules that will require youth sports coaches to sit players who show concussion-like symptoms.
State lawmakers approved the proposal that's aimed at protecting young athletes with head injuries.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich agreed to sign it into law.
The new rules apply to youth sports organizations outside of the Ohio High School Athletic Association schools that already have their own guidelines.
It requires players to sit out games and practice if they have symptoms of a concussion or head injury.
Those players won't be allowed back in until being checked and cleared by a doctor or licensed health care provider.
