HOWLAND, Ohio - Investigators are looking for the cause of house fire that sent a woman to the hospital.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, firefighters from six departments responded to the fire on Raccoon Drive in Howland.
Several pets, including cats inside the home, died in the blaze.
A female resident was rushed to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Officials have not released the name or condition of the victim.
Howland Township Fire Chief James Pantalone says the entire home suffered smoke damage. As for the origin of the blaze, Pantalone says they're still investigating, but this time of year fires can grow quickly.
"We're in this holiday season where there're a lot of decorations; your Christmas tree, lights, other things, so fire builds very rapidly, very quickly," Chief Pantalone said.
A neighbor took care of the family's surviving dog, Jasmine, while firefighters worked to clean up after the flames were out.
