Youngstown murder trials gets underway

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The murder trial of Donovan Miller began on Thursday with the jury traveling to view the scene of the crime.

Miller is charged with aggravated murder in the September fatal shooting of 22-year-old Quest Wagoner at the victim's home on Inverness Avenue.

In court, Miller declined an offer to avoid trial and plead guilty to a reduced charge.

He is also charged with tampering with evidence and drug trafficking.

    A man who was found guilty of vicious attacks on two women was back in Mahoning county court Thursday to face sentencing.   In February, a jury found Michael Johnson of Youngstown guilty of attempted murder for a severe attack on a woman in her home. Prosecutors say the victim was beaten, burned, stabbed and left to die.

    A former police chief in Columbiana county is being accused of theft in office. When Leetonia's mayor took office last year he thought there were some discrepancies in the village's accounts and asked for an audit. What that audit allegedly found was money missing from the police department's Care and Share Program and from its fund raising account.

    As work continues on the resurfacing of Meridian Road, Mahoning county Commissioners Thursday approved the contract for Phase III of the project. Phase III is a $1.5 million contract for the area between Cornersburg and Mahoning Avenue.  It will begin while Phase I is still being completed.  "It's going to be a lot congestion and a lot of delays, so we just ask if people could be patient during the construction.
