Youngstown police investigating officer related shooting

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown police are investigating an officer involved shooting the city's west side.

The officer attempted to stop a vehicle just before midnight in the area of North Richview and Connecticut Avenue for a traffic violation.

The driver allegedly fled and struck the officer with his vehicle.

At that point, the police officer fired several rounds at the suspect hitting him in the stomach.

The suspect is being treated at the hospital.

Sources say the officer was injured in the hip and leg, but was released from the hospital on Monday morning.

The names of the officers and suspect have not been released.
