Retailers pull out extra stops for last-minute shoppers

NILES, Ohio- With less than three days to go, shoppers are pouring into stores in search of the perfect gifts this Christmas.

They say good things come to those who wait and this year the procrastinators may have unintentionally landed some of the best deals.

It's all hands on deck as retailers pull out all the stops to woo last-minute shoppers with discounts and extended hours.

The Saturday before Christmas is typically a strong day for holiday sales. According to MasterCard Advisors' SpendingPulse, consumers were expected to shell out a total of $34 million Friday and Saturday.

Macy's joins the line up of stores offering extended hours, promising to keep its cash registers ringing until midnight Sunday. It's first time ever that the retail giant has stayed open for 48 hours straight.

Macy's at the Eastwood Mall says many of its shoppers take advantage of evening hours on a usually basis.

If its customers are stumped on what to put under the tree, they have a few ideas.

"Our cashmere sweaters to diamond studs and fragrances are always a hot selling item this season," Denise Sertich said, Macy's store manager.

With a little more time to decide, shoppers may end up finding exactly what they were looking for.
