HICKORY TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania - At least six crews from several Lawrence County communities battled a house fire in Hickory Township.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon two men in a truck spotted smoke pouring from a home on State Road. When they pulled into the driveway a neighbor told them the house was on fire and pets were inside.

"When we pulled up there wasn't even enough smoke to be a house on fire and we just thought it was chimney lighting and if we had a fire extinguisher we probably could have had it out. It was like right at the window and the house wasn't even up in smoke yet. But by the time we got all the doors open it was about gone. But if we had a fire extinguisher in the truck we probably could have had it out," said Levi Herold.

Firefighters searched the house and found two dogs unresponsive under a kitchen table. Two people who live in the home were at work when the fire broke out.

There's no word yet on what may have sparked that blaze.
