The prices of assault weapons sky rocket as the demand military-style weapons increases

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Talk of banning assault rifles and large magazines following the Sandy Hook shooting, has led to booming gun sales, so much so the demand for weapons has sent prices sky rocketing.

Michael Miller with Miller Rod and Gun in Youngstown says distributors are charging as much as $500 more per weapon. His store has stopped accepting new orders because the distributors can't promise they'll be able to fill them.

"Like any commodity out there, whether it be milk or beef or gasoline, when the demand for it quadruples; number one the price goes up and number two the customers become more panicked that they may not be able to get it so they try to buy them a lot faster and sooner," Miller said.

Miller says guns sales take off any time there is talk of banning guns or making it more difficult to obtain them.
