Liberty considers deal with MetroParks to save on maintenance

LIBERTY TWP., Ohio- Tending to Churchill Park in Liberty Township could soon be the responsibility of Trumbull County MetroParks.

Township trustees are considering a proposal for the park system to take over maintenance of the park.

"We're being cut left and right, so if we have an opportunity to lower our cost and not lose any services, it's a no-brainer," Jason Rubin said, township trustee.

The deal would save the township close to $50,000 and opens the door for possible improvements. If the township decides instead to lease the park to the MetroParks, upgrades to the parking lot and walking trails could be done at a lower cost.

"It's going to be an opportunity, possibly to put a dog park down there, more walking trails down there, because it's a great park," Rubin said.

Trumbull County MetroParks estimates the operation fee at $20,000.

Trustees expect to vote on the plan within a month.
