YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A new Mahoning County commissioner made his first appearance for official business on Monday.

David Ditzler joined commissioners Carol Rimedio-Righetti and Anthony Traficanti.

Ditzler says he will focus on finding funding for the county sheriff's department and prosecutor's office.

"Our concern is public safety. Once we make Mahoning County the safest place that we can, then we can invite different opportunities with economic development, more people, more families," Ditzler said.

Another of Ditzler's goals is to make county commissioners and other officials more accessible to the public.

Ditzler says he would like commissioners meetings to be held at locations throughout the county in addition to downtown Youngstown.
