Would-be Trumbull deputy fired following New Years homicide

Updated:

WARREN, Ohio - A man who was in the process of becoming a Trumbull Sheriff's Deputy was fired after being present during a fatal shooting on New Year's Day.

The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department said Alvin Jennings was working as a private security guard at the Sunset Lounge in Warren the night Corey Blackwell was shot and killed.

Jennings was certified as a reserve deputy for the county, but had not completed proper training and had been warned by the sheriff's department not to perform private security duties at liquor establishments.

When it was determined that Jennings had continued to do so anyway, he was dismissed from the department.
