May leading candidate for football coach at East

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - PJ Mays is the leading candidate to become the East High School head football coach and is expected to be named next week.

Mays played for the Panthers and led them to an 8-3 record in 1997, earning a spot in the playoffs for the first time in school history.

He was a second team all state selection.

After playing at the University of Cincinnati, Mays transferred to Youngstown State University and in a short time he cracked the top five in numerous offensive categories.

A school spokesman would not say Mays is getting the job, and would only confirm that he's a candidate for the job.

The Youngstown School Board's next meeting is on January 22nd.
