NW Pa. amusement park faces possible tax sale

CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. (AP) - County officials are threatening the trustees who run a 121-year-old amusement park in northwestern Pennsylvania with a sheriff's sale if the group can't begin paying down an $850,000 delinquent tax debt.

Crawford County officials say the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park have until Feb. 7 to present a plan to repay the money.

The group has been repaying the taxes at a rate of $1,000 per month, which isn't enough to keep the debt from growing due to penalties and interest.

The park is home to the Blue Streak, a wooden roller coaster built in 1938 that is 1 of the 10 oldest coasters in America.

The park is owned by a public trust which has limited power to sell its assets. The tax sale would take place in September, if necessary.

    Police in Liberty and Youngstown are searching the area around Home Savings Bank on Belmont Avenue for a robbery suspect.  According to an initial call log, the suspect came into the bank and pulled a gun. Bank employees weren't able to tell police what was taken at the time they called 911, but they did describe the suspect as a 5'9'' man with dark skin.  Police are searching the cemetery behind the bank, as well as the surrounding areas.
