NW Pa. amusement park faces possible tax sale

Updated:

CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. (AP) - County officials are threatening the trustees who run a 121-year-old amusement park in northwestern Pennsylvania with a sheriff's sale if the group can't begin paying down an $850,000 delinquent tax debt.

Crawford County officials say the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park have until Feb. 7 to present a plan to repay the money.

The group has been repaying the taxes at a rate of $1,000 per month, which isn't enough to keep the debt from growing due to penalties and interest.

The park is home to the Blue Streak, a wooden roller coaster built in 1938 that is 1 of the 10 oldest coasters in America.

The park is owned by a public trust which has limited power to sell its assets. The tax sale would take place in September, if necessary.
