Expo organizer's ban on assault weapons irks some

Updated:

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Some gun enthusiasts are calling for a boycott of what's billed as Pennsylvania's largest outdoor-sports show because of a ban on displays of assault weapons.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday that Reed Exhibitions, a British company that runs the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show in Harrisburg, has banned displays of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Ed Several, a vice president of the company, told the Inquirer such exhibits might be "a distraction" in the wake of the recent mass shooting in Connecticut and the gun-control debate raging in Washington.

A number of people are calling for a boycott in postings on the show's Facebook page.

The 9-day show is scheduled to open Feb. 2 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.
