Youngstown City Schools working to erase looming budget shortfall

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown School Superintendent Dr. Connie Hathorn met with members of his executive staff on Tuesday afternoon looking for ways to erase a looming budget shortfall.

The district faces a projected $48 million deficit by fiscal year 2017.

Hathorn says about $30 million of that deficit can be attributed to students leaving the district for community schools, vouchers and open enrollment.

The schools were just released from fiscal emergency in 2011.
