Memory of young mother and her sons lives on in charity event

Updated:

GIRARD, Ohio - The memory of a young mother and her two sons and their unsolved murder lives on through a program that has been helping other children in need.

On Saturday, a spaghetti dinner was held in Girard to raise money for the Lena, Mason, Christian Fund.

Over the past six years, the fund has donated 400 book bags and school supplies to needy children in the community.

It also purchased toys for 30 children this past Christmas.

On September 13, 2005, 22-year-old Lena Cross was stabbed to death and then her home was set on fire.

Her sons, Mason and Christian, perished in the flames while they were sleeping.

Their murders remain unsolved.
