Man charged with robbing two people, threatening officers

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A man was arraigned by the Mahoning County Grand Jury Tuesday morning on aggravated robbery and menacing charges.

The Youngstown Police Department charged Christopher Cunningham, 52, with two counts of aggravated robbery, four counts of aggravated menacing, intimidation of a witness, resisting arrest and attempted criminal damage after an incident downtown on New Year's Day.

Cunningham is accused of punching a man in the back of the head near the Western Reserve Transit Authority on Mahoning Avenue and stealing his jacket then stealing a woman's cell phone near Federal Plaza.

Police arrested Cunningham near Vindicator Square the morning of the two robberies after receiving separate calls from the two victims that described the same perpetrator.

Cunningham threatened to kill the arresting officers and had to be subdued with pepper spray.

A grand jury indicted Cunningham on the aggravated robbery charges January 24.
