CHICAGO, Illinois - General Motors unveiled the diesel version of the Lordstown built Chevy Cruze.

The public got its first official glimpse of the car at the Chicago Auto Show on Thursday morning.

The automaker plans to produce the Cruze at Lordstown through model year 2014.

Chevy executives say the diesel model will enhance the Cruze as their bestselling vehicle.

"We've gotten a lot more buyers under the age of 25. We have a higher educated, higher household income buyer, and more important than that, these buyers are more excited about their vehicle and more involved in the vehicle purchase than our previous small car owners," said Christi Landy, Chevrolet Marketing Director,

Leaders of the auto workers union say it's another positive investment in the plant and its employees.
