CAMPBELL, Ohio - Ohio's auditor says he'll turn over to federal authorities evidence that Campbell Schools, and eight other districts statewide, scrubbed their attendance numbers.

The auditor says an investigation found that the school districts altered daily enrollment numbers which could improve their state report card.

An examination of the districts records shows 39 students total, between Campbell Memorial High School, and Campbell Middle School, did not have supporting documentation for breaks in enrollment.

The superintendent tells 21 News that the district has complied with the state and he believes any mistakes in documentation are the result of misunderstanding state guidelines.

"I think that certainly is one of the things that a number of school districts are saying that in some cases they might get two different guidances from two different departments," said Tom Robey, Campbell superintendent.

The auditor says he's turning the information over to the U.S. Department of Education Inspector General and expects that office to consult with the United States Attorney's Office.

The superintendent says his district has since put in a series of checks and balances to prevent something like this from happening again.
