Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 12, 2013

Artist Melissa Oppenheim will be unveiling her exhibit ,“Cityscapes & Wasted Space" , at Baked and Wired’s cupcake and coffee shop in Washington, D.C. later this month.

Oppenheim has devised an original, patent-pending process that combines the art of photography and silkscreening. Her trademark, Silkography ™, reflects her own personal brand through the use of her unique process, which combines the ancient Oriental art of silk screening with modern day digital imaging. Her artwork adds bright and splashy color schemes to original photography of city landscapes, outdoor scenes, and typically unnoticed spaces.
?
“For my first series, I tried to take ordinarily drab, plain or outright ugly urban landscapes, and transform them into something, in my eye, refreshing and beautiful,” Oppenheim explains.

Oppenheim has already had pieces installed in high end condos and office buildings across South Beach and Fort Lauderdale, and is currently working on a few commission pieces for individuals and corporations.

Melissa, who currently resides in Washington D.C, started her art career drawing political cartoons. While still in high school she had a cartoon commissioned by the Florida Governor’s office while Jeb Bush held the position, even though many of her cartoons were considered rather “progressive” in nature.

?After beginning her college education at Harvard University, she began drawing cartoons for the Harvard Political Review, but found herself drawn to new types of art, and sought to combine them in new and experimental ways. Her silkscreen of an image from Prague was the centerpiece of an undergraduate art show at Harvard during the Spring of 2012.

Oppenheim’s pieces will be on display at Baked & Wired from February 13th through the 27th, with a reception to be held on Friday February 22nd from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The artwork will be available for purchase.

Baked and Wired is located at 1025 Thomas Jefferson Street in the Georgetown area. To learn more about Melissa Oppenheim or to commission her for a project, please go to her website, meloppenheim.com, or to Mel Oppenheim’s Artist Page on Facebook, Facebook.com/MelOppenheim
