ODJFS: Oil and gas industry jobs on the rise

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The number of Ohio workers in the oil and gas industry's core jobs increased 17 percent in the first quarter of 2012 from the first quarter of 2011, according to a study by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The study included jobs like pipeline construction and well drilling.

The report indicates that employment in ancillary shale industries also increased.

    Some of the Girard Fire Department's rescue equipment will soon be entering the 21st Century after receiving several hundred thousand dollars from a federal grant. Congressman Tim Ryan announced Thursday Girard was one of two cities in Ohio selected to receive money from the Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
