Tips for homeowners in cases burglary and robbery

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police say they have help for homeowners so they can reclaim property if they become a victim of a burglary or robbery.

Lieutenant Jason Simon told block watch presidents that property record forms are available for anyone to use. The form can be picked up at the Youngstown chief's office.

Right now only about 12.5% of property crimes are solved, however you can increase your odds of recovering property by having the proper information for police.

Police get lists of items sold to pawn shops without serial numbers. However, owners cannot claim the property that was stolen.

You can increase your odds of recovering stolen items by picking up a form and recording high value items and their serial numbers.

Police advise to keep that form in a safe place.
