Charter amendment against fracking on the ballot in Youngstown

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Valley residents opposed to a controversial method of gas and oil drilling in Youngstown may have their way.

Youngstown City Council voted to place a city charter amendment on the May ballot.

The amendment is supposed to ban what's known as fracking, freeing gas and oil by pumping water, sand and chemicals into the ground.

Even if voters would approve the amendment, Ohio law puts such regulations in the hands of the state and not local governments.
