UPDATED: Two charged in Liberty Internet cafe raid

Posted: Updated:

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -Two people have been charged after a two-week probe into illegal gambling at a Youngstown business came to a head Friday morning.

Police raided Belmont Sweeps, 3103 Belmont Ave., at 10:20 a.m. Friday seizing slot machines and arresting two female employees.

Amber Almhaiat and Patricia Micochero, employees at Belmont Sweeps, are both charged with operating a gambling house and gambling. They are set to be arraigned in Girard Municipal Court.

The owner of the internet cafe has not been located yet, but will be charged as well.

Officers took 32 gambling machines, cash and documents from the business that was ordered to close.

Capt. Toby Meloro stresses that, while the internet cafe did have internet gambling machines, the machines seized were actual slot machines.

The owner of the internet cafe on Belmont Avenue has not been charged.
