WALLDORF, Germany, Feb. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced the general availability of the 9.0 version of the SAP® Transportation Management (SAP TM) application. Released more than a month early, the latest version of SAP TM delivers important innovations for shippers and freight forwarders. Benefits of the new release include improved ocean and new air freight management, superior manual and automated transportation planning, cost distribution, and additional transportation management analytics and reports. The news follows an announcement in November about the benefits of the latest version of the solution.

As part of the portfolio of SAP solutions for supply chain management (SCM), delivery of SAP TM integrates transportation management capabilities with warehouse planning and execution processes in the SAP® Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) application and transportation execution tracking in the SAP® Event Management application. The new release offers customers holistic, end-to-end logistics process support, including integrated planning, orchestration, execution, tracking and settlement of the physical movement of goods. SAP TM has been extended to cover air freight management for freight forwarders, with specific capabilities for airfreight order, capacity, cargo and gateway management. Other enhancements specific for freight forwarder companies include comprehensive forwarding order and service product management. Updates for ocean freight, manual and automated freight planning, and reporting support both shipper and freight forwarder industries.

Increased demand for a comprehensive transportation management solution is spurring mass adoption of SAP TM globally, including key high-growth markets such as Latin America, Asia Pacific and Russia. Major transportation and shipping companies are already live on the new release of SAP TM. One such company, Australia-based Linfox, implemented the latest version of SAP TM in record time. Linfox serves as the leading logistics service provider for the Asia-Pacific Japan region, with more than 6,000 vehicles and 18,500 employees. In addition to Linfox and including 22 customer ramp-up projects, there are now over 100 customers for SAP Transportation Management.

"The early availability of SAP TM 9.0 provides us with highly anticipated freight planning capabilities," said John Ansley, CIO, Linfox. "We are now able to efficiently plan our road trains, leading to better asset usage, for example, cost cutting, and improved customer service through on-time delivery."

SAP TM is part of the portfolio of SAP solutions for supply chain management, which also includes SAP EWM and SAP Event Management. The offerings are integrated in a single platform but available as independent or interconnected solutions.
