Results of test to determine new Warren Police Chief released

WARREN, Ohio - The candidate for police chief in Warren that scored highest on the Civil Service test will be promoted to Captain today.

Lt. Erick Merkel was the top scorer on the Chief List. He will be promoted today at 2:30 p.m. because Warren Police Chief Tim Bowers has not retired.

The top candidates are listed below:

1. Erick Merkel: 83.75 percent with 125 responses correct.

2. Martin M. Gargas: 74 percent with 111 responses correct.

3. Robert Massucci: 74 percent with 111 responses correct.

4. Janice Gilmore: 72 percent 108 responses correct.
