BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The musical talents of Valley high school students were on display Friday night.
Local high school bands met at South Range and Howland High Schools for the Ohio Music Education Association's District Band event.
A South Range band director said it is not a competition against the other bands but a competition against themselves.
Judges rated each band on performance and sight reading.
"It's just a wonderful experience for teachers as well as students. It makes us very accountable for what we do in our rehearsal rooms. It makes our students very accountable to achieve musically and feel proud of proud of what we do," said John Veneskey.
The event continues Saturday for schools in Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties.
