HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania- One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, according to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. A traveling photo exhibit in Hermitage aims to put a face on these statistics.
The exhibit "67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania," celebrates survivors and promotes early detection.
Rebecca Fitzgerald, a five year survivor of West Middlesex, shared her story at the opening reception Thursday evening.
"I was never not optimistic that I wasn't going to beat it. I have a wonderful family and a lot of support behind that so it was like I have to beat this for them, not only myself," said Fitzgerald.
The exhibit is on display at the Sharon Regional Health System Diagnostic and Imaging Center through March 23.
