CINCINNATI (AP) - A research team at an Ohio children's hospital has been analyzing more than 1,300 suicide notes in an effort to help prevent future suicides.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that a team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is using advanced computer technology to analyze the language in notes written by people of varying ages from all over North America.
The team hopes to use the results to create a tool that can help mental health workers assess the likelihood of a person attempting suicide.
The newspaper reports that someone dies by suicide every 14 minutes in the United States, and there's another attempt every 32 seconds.
Cincinnati Children's says about 40 suicidal young people come to its emergency department each week.
