Adoptive homes sought for older foster children

Posted: Updated:

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - The state and a nonprofit adoption foundation are working together to expand a program seeking adoptive families for older foster children around Ohio.

The Dayton Daily News reports that $1.2 million contributed by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and $1.1 million from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services have allowed expansion of the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program.

Ohio's contribution enabled the foundation to expand its existing program, adding 32 sites across Ohio.

The program also has hired 24 recruiters covering 51 counties to find adoptive families for foster children in the hard-to-place category. That category includes those who are older than 8 and have been in foster care for two or more years.
