One person injured after tree trimming accident in Newton

Posted: Updated:

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - One person was sent to the hospital after sustaining injuries while in a tree.

The incident was reported shortly before noon at 2300 South Center Street. A tree trimmer employed at Barrackman Tree Services was working in a tree when a log fell on him.

"I'd say the trunk weighed 200 to 300 pounds," says Stephen Kisak with the Newtons Falls Joint Fire District. "It was a smaller tree that him from his head to his ribs and scraped him on the way down."

Emergency repsonders with the district transported the victim to a park that would serve as a landing point for a helicopter.

"He was in the tree upon our arrival," says John Currence with the district. "[The workers] extricated him with the basket from their equipment, brought him down to us ... We backboarded him, mobilized and sent him with the Metro [Life Flight]."

The victim was flown to an Akron hospital for treatment.
