YSU Rallies for 4-3 victory in league opener over Detroit

BOARDMAN, OHio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 victory over Detroit on Saturday in the Horizon League opener for both teams at the Boardman Tennis Center. 

After dropping the doubles point, YSU picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. 

At No. 1, Silviu Mistreanu won 6-4, 6-3 over Alex Latosinksy; at No. 2, Sebastian Hagn beat Mike Basha 6-1, 6-3; at No. 4, Zeeshan Ismail beat Chris Cheung 6-2, 7-5 and at No. 6, Max Schmerin defeated Rafael Orantes 6-4, 6-2. 

Schmerin was playing for the first time this spring for the Penguins. 

With the win, YSU improves to 7-5 while the Titans are 4-9. YSU has won seven of its past nine matches. 

The Penguins are now off to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a two-dual trip. YSU plays Idaho State on Monday and Seattle on Tuesday.
