Sunrise Inn files lawsuit to prevent former lounge from opening another business

Posted: Updated:

WARREN, Ohio - The Sunrise Inn has filed a lawsuit to keep owners and managers of the former Sunset Lounge from opening another business at that location and to have the liquor license permanently revoked.

After more than two dozen calls to police and a murder outside the lounge on New Years Eve, the city took action to close the business against the Sunset Lounge calling it a public nuisance.

The lawsuit alleges Sunset Lounge and its owner Joseph Sankey, Junior, and Dream Team Promotions, and it's owner LaShawn Ziegler, and Robert Cregar, engaged in "civil racketeering."

The lawsuit also lists five unnamed co-defendants.

As previously reported, Cory Blackwell, 25, died after being shot inside the Sunset Lounge back on January first.

Orlonzo Murry, 26, was arrested earlier this month on a warrant from Warren police for having a firearm in a liquor establishment.

A source said he was wanted for questioning, in connection with a shooting that took place inside the Sunset Lounge.
