NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Police and fire officials have determined that a fire reported Thursday was intentionally set by a 10-year-old.
Officials responded to a fire at 10202 Main street around 2:35 p.m., according to a release. The fire was specifically located in an upstairs bedroom. The nitre home was filled with smoke but officials were able to contain the fire in the room and extinguish it.
An investigation of the fire concluded that a 10-year-old female playing with a lighter had intentionally ignited the mattress in the room, starting the fire.
Three people were home in the building during the time of the fire but were not injured. Damage estimates have not been determined but officials say the building sustained heavy smoke damage.
