Oil and gas production reporting may expand

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The federal government wants to provide more frequent oil and gas production reports for Pennsylvania and other states that have seen a recent boom in drilling.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says it wants to include monthly production estimates from Pennsylvania and 11 other states in its reports.

The Marcellus Shale Coalition, an industry group based in Pennsylvania, says Monday that it supports the EIA proposal. Kathryn Klaber, the group's president, says they recognize the importance of more frequent reporting given the dramatic increases in production.

Pennsylvania currently reports on production every six months, while Ohio and West Virginia report once a year.

EIA spokesman Jonathan Cogan says details of the proposal are still being worked out. The EIA collects, analyzes and publishes large amounts of energy-related data.
