Posted: Updated:

SHENANGO TWP., Pennsylvania - Charges could be filed against a Lawrence County person in connection with a massive brush fire in Shenango Township on Sunday.

The blaze erupted late in the afternoon near Snake Run and Lower Boyd School Roads. Officials have identified a person who was burning brush when the winds kicked up and eventually spread the fire across nearly 500 acres.

Fire officials called out all available units from nearby communities, along with small aerial water drop planes.

Fire crews were standing by at 27 homes. Witnesses say flames were shooting some 30 feet into the air at times.

No injuries were reported and the flames did not reach any structures.
