Local nonprofit weighs in on possible Cardinal Mooney relocation

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Members of the faith based ACTION nonprofit wants  Cardinal Mooney High School to stay in Youngstown instead of moving to the suburbs.

Members expressed their desire to see the school stay in the city to school officials Tuesday evening.

ACTION member Rev. Lewis Macklin said Mooney provides a unique ministry that complements the other private Christian, public and charter schools.

"We were concerned about the destabilization of the city of Youngstown," Macklin said. "The efforts that are being made to revitalize the community and how the departure of Cardinal Mooney will certainly be a negative impact on our community."

Macklin said they intend to communicate their stance on the issue to the bishop, who has the ultimate decision on whether or not the school will move.
