Review of child deaths in Mahoning Valley completed

Posted: Updated:

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - The Child Fatality Review Board has completed their 2011 review of child deaths in the area.

Their report, "Preventing Child Deaths: Report and Recommendations on the Review of 2011 Child Deaths," will outline potential risks and possible solutions for children fatalities.

Each county is required by The Ohio General Assembly to establish a Board that will review the deaths of children under 18 years old and to generate a report at the end of each year.

In 2011, 26 child deaths occurred in the Valley, representing a 32% decrease as compared to 2010.

Between 2004 and 2011, 31 children lost their lives due to homicide.

Reports that have been registered thus far for 2012 do not indicate a trend from 2011.
