Informational autism spectrum to be held

SHARON, PA. - The Connections Autism Program of Sharon Regional Health System is hosting its sixth annual autism conference on Thursday.

The conference, "Austism Spectrum Disorder, Psychoparmacology and Parent Training," will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Casino at Buhl Park.

The forum will discuss the effectiveness of pharmacological treatment in ASD, how to determine the performance of certain medications and treatment processes for children, and use of pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for other common issues related to childhood ASD.

Keynote speaker, Benjamin L. Handen, is a licensed psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. 

He currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the Universtiy of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine and is the Director of Research and Clinical Services at the Center for Autism and Development Disorders at UPMC.

The conference is designed for families, Wraparound staff, social workers, counselors and therapists, teachers, behavior analyst certification board members, speech therapists and occupational therapists.
