Video released of teacher being injured in mock drill

Posted: Updated:

BOARDMAN, Ohio - 21 News has obtained the video from police showing how a Center Middle School teacher was injured during a drill at Boardman High School.

The family of teacher Jesse McClain says he broke his shoulder and hip when he took part in the April 3rd simulation of an armed intruder at the school.

In the videotape obtained through a public records request, the police officer runs after McClain near the front doors of the high school.

Both men then fall to the floor with the officer falling on top of McClain.

McClain was playing the role of a distraught parent during the active shooter drill, and police officers and others were supposed to treat the scenario as if it were real.

In this case we're told officers had no previous knowledge of who was playing the role of the shooting suspects.

"My father was tackled from behind without warning, the video speaks for itself," says the victim's son, Jessie McClain IV.

The internal affairs investigation by an outside investigator is complete.

Chief Jack Nichols says he is waiting on the final report before making any determinations or any public statements on the matter.
