21 News reporter Michelle Nicks and photojournalist Tim Dale nominated for regional Emmy

Posted: Updated:

21 News Reporter Michelle Nicks and Photojournalist Tim Dale are the only local news team nominated for a regional Emmy Award.

The nominations were announced on Thursday in Cleveland by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences or NATAS. Michelle and Tim are competing with reporters from Cleveland and Indianapolis.

Michelle and Tim were nominated in the news category for stories about "societal concerns."

The piece nominated , titled "Cell Phone Picture Dangers," informs viewers about how smartphone photos posted to social media sites leave a high-tech invisible trail mapping out your location.

The trail mapping is known as "geotagging," primarily because all phones produced after 1995 are equipped with a GPS locator.

The story not only informed viewers of the danger posed, but also showed them to turn-off the application so that sensitive information isn't made public.

The winners of the Emmy's will be announced in June.
