Counsel retained for woman charged in death of Shenango Twp. police officer

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania - New developments in the case of Kylee Barletto, the woman charged in the death of a Shenango Township police officer.

Attorney James M. Ecker of Pittsburgh says he has been retained to represent Barletto.

She is charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault, along with driving without a proper license; all in connection with the death of Officer William "Jerry" McCarthy on Thursday night.

The cruiser McCarthy was riding in was broadsided by Barletto's car while she was allegedly fleeing New Castle police.

Ecker visited Barletto on Sunday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

"Kylee is still in shock. She is in serious condition. She is not remembering a lot of anything as we speak right now. I haven't gone into the case with her in any great detail," Ecker said.

Ecker extends condolences on behalf of himself and Barletto's family over the death of Officer McCarthy.
